Burmese Cat Description
Burmese cats are substantially built, with a surprising weight for their size. The head is rounded and the eyes are large and yellow, varying in tint from golden to green. The nose is small, giving this breed a sweet expression. The coat is short but thick and luxuriant. Burmese cats are solid sable brown. Other color variations include cream, red, champagne, platinum, blue, and patterning; cats with these coat variations are sometimes referred to Malayan.
Burmese Cat Traits
This is a people-oriented breed, that is playful and good with children. The Burmese, with its velvety coat, is a good lap cat. One reference states that "it is said that a Burmese is so trusting that it should never be let outside, since it lacks much instinct to fend for itself".
Burmese Cat Health
Some Burmese cats have been reported to be predisposed to upper respiratory infections and bowel disease. Make sure to buy your cat from a reputable breeder with a clean facility and healthy animals.
Burmese Cat Summary
Kittens may be born with light coat color and some tabby markings. The coat will darken and the markings disappear with age. The overall impression of the ideal Burmese would be a cat of medium size with substantial bone structure, good muscular development and a surprising weight for its size. This together with a rounded head, expressive eyes and a sweet expression presents a totally distinctive cat which is comparable to no other breed. Perfect physical condition, with excellent muscle tone. There should be no evidence of obesity, paunchiness, weakness or apathy.
