Savannah Description
The Savannah Cat is a new breed, developed from the wild African Serval, a spotted, shorthaired cat that resembles the Cheetah. The Serval has a wedge shaped head and very large, forward facing ears.
Savannah History
The Savannah Cat has been demonstrated to breed true (Savannah cat bred to a Savannah cat producing obvious Savannah kittens) only since 2000. Many genes of the wild African Serval and domestic cat breeds with which the Serval was cross-bred are still present in the breed. The Savannah Cat has been accepted by the The International Cat Association, with designation as an experimental breed, as of 2001.
Savannah Traits
Some early generation Savannah Cats (F1) possess many characteristics of their wild ancestor. Later generations (F2 - F5) are more domesticated. Savannah Cats do best in households with children or other pets if they are introduced as kittens.
