Turkish Angora Description
The Turkish Angora is a muscular cat, less Oriental in body type than the traditional Angora. The distinctive feature is the coat, which is long, fine and silky with no undercoat. White is the traditional color, but many colors and coat patterns are accepted. The Turkish Angora has a distinct ruff and long, plumed tail.
Turkish Angora History
Traditional Angoras became very scarce in their native Turkey, prompting the Turkish government to set up a breeding program at the Ankara Zoo, which expanded worldwide beginning in the 1960's.
Turkish Angora Traits
The Turkish Angora are intelligent, personable cats.
Turkish Angora Health
Congenital deafness may be present in Turkish Angora's with a white coat and blue or odd-colored eyes.
Turkish Angora Summary
The Turkish Angora's long coat does not mat badly, due to the lack of undercoat. Daily brushing is recommended. The ideal Turkish Angora is a balanced, graceful cat with a fine, silky coat that shimmers with every movement, in contrast to the firm, long muscular body beneath it.
